   MALACARA

A curatorial platform bridging art, design, and traditional craftsmanship through a lens of community and culture. Working in close collaboration with artists and artisans, we produce handcrafted objects that merge heritage with contemporary spaces. It is a place for creative freedom—where experimentation and dialogue expand the boundaries of artistic practice and foster cultural exchange.

01.Vase Collection

Artisans
Comissioned Nov 2023
Created March 2024
Tonalá, México

Part of Lost and Found Exposition Barcelona Nov 2024
14 Piece Collection

MALACARA's first official pieces mark the beginning of our ongoing search for creative freedom.

Created in Tonalá, a town near Guadalajara known for its rich artisan tradition, we chose to begin this journey with local glassblowers. Rather than provide a defined design, we challenged them to step away from replication and embrace improvisation.

The only guideline: create a face.

The result is a series of spontaneous, hand-blown glass sculptures—each one a unique expression born from instinct and craft.

02.Lamp Collection

In collaboration with Fuera / Fos
Created Nov 2024
Barcelona, Spain

Part of Lost and Found Exhibition
Barcelona Nov 2024
4 Piece Collection

The lamp collection, created in collaboration with spatial design studio
FUERA / FOS, explores the abstraction of joy and childlike essence through design.

Commissioned for our first exhibition in Barcelona, the project challenged the studio to step outside their usual practice and embrace a playful, experimental approach.

The result is a series of luminous objects that blur the line between function and wonder.

03.Jewerly Collection

In collaboration with Happy Belly
Created Dic 2024
London, United Kingdom

Part of Playground Exhibition
Guadalajara Jan 2025
6 Piece Collection

Happybellyman is a UK-based artist and jeweller living along London’s waterways.

Blending ancient and modern metalsmithing techniques—such as lost wax casting—they create wearable talismans rooted in folk traditions: herbal medicine, storytelling, and mythic beings.

Their pieces carry themes of protection, wisdom, fertility, and the spirit of the trickster. As a queer person, grower, and hedge herbalist, this is the landscape from which their inspiration flows.

04.Ground(ed)

In collaboration with Mel Mehler
Created Sept 2024
Lisbon, Portugal

Part of Lost and Found Exhibition
Guadalajara Jan 2025
6 Piece Collection

Collaborating with emerging artists is our way of building community and embracing creative dialogue.

This cup collection, made in Lisbon by ceramist Mel Mehler, exemplifies our intention to offer a platform for artistic interpretation.

Through the simple concept of a face, the project invites personal perspectives and expands the conversation around form, function, and expression.

05.Valeria Guerra Collection

In collaboration with Valeria Guerra
Created July 2024
Guadalajara, México

Part of Lost and Found Exhibition
Barcelona Nov 2025
2 Piece Collection

In collaboration with jeweler Valeria Guerra, we created a pair of coin-like pieces. Using the face as a tool for expression, Valeria stepped into unfamiliar territory—interpreting a form she had never worked with before.

The result: two small sculptures that blur the line between ornament and narrative.

06.Playground Exhibition

Privada Pública
Guadalajara, México

Pre MACO. Art Week México

Malacara's Playground is a series of events that offer a unique approach to art and design through playful and interactive engagement. These are installations designed to highlight and inspire creativity, curiosity, and the connections that arise from collaborative artistic exploration.
This event celebrates collective imagination, where collaboration drives exploration and challenges how we relate to our creative practices. Each piece becomes a living reflection of the shared experience of play.
Playground is presented as the perfect space to play, exchange ideas, and connect through shared curiosity, fostering a free and authentic approach to art.

07.Lost and Found Exhibition

Kokot Studio
Barcelona, Spain

Our first official event introducing our first members of our community. A last minute decision and desire to share our creations and processes. We gathered and shipped all pieces from México, Lisbon, UK to Barcelona and presented Lost and Found. An event full of rituals in food, drinks, smells to promote in a genuine way community and honest interactions with art and people.
